According to the Legend of Bodhidharma, a Buddhist monk came to the Shaolin monastery where he faced a wall for nine years and did not speak. He made a hole in the temple wall with his stare which, revealed an iron chest containing two books that taught the necessary skills in martial arts and gave the tools for training a healthy body, mind and soul. Monks learned to defend their monastery with numerous weapons such as the twin hooks, whipchain and Scorpion Kung Fu.
