The first purely Haitian flag was adopted on May 18, 1803, commemorating Haiti's separation from the French colony. Haiti was the first black community to be declared a free independent country.
This little Haitian sat still as the rest of the people got up, cheering and crowded around ready to form a parade around their village. He sits unaware amongst all the abandoned chairs of what the celebration was all about.
Photo taken in Cabaret, Haiti.
Proceeds from this print go to fund future medical missions to third world countries.
