I've always admired the intense colors and textures in the Betta (aka the Siamese fighting fish) and decided to do a photographic series on them. I did not have a plan as to how I would show the fish but decided to photograph them on white as well as black. I discovered that the only way to get a 'reaction' from them was to let them see each other. They are called 'fighting fish' after all and it was through this observation that I witnessed their dance like movements. As I edited the photos and made selections, it was obvious that the images were more powerful when I created compositions that looked like they were reacting to each other. No bettas were ever harmed because they were never in the same bowl.

Love the fluid composition.
