by Laura Bolter Design
Laura Bolter studied Visual Communications/Graphic Design at the University of Kansas. Laura worked at Hallmark for several years, then started a freelance career. After 20 years, she wanted to explore a more personal art expression, so she picked up paints and brushes. The influence of many years of graphic design and typography work are evident in her mixed-media paintings, which are known for structured compositions with vivid areas of flat color and bold use of symbolism, often incorporating lettering. Impacted by world events such as 9/11, she finds it fulfilling to create images that are optimistic and hopeful, and uses Torah story references as well as prayers from Jewish liturgy as a reminder that holiness is found in everyday life. Her goal is to create delight and whimsy in a world that can often be dark and to promote harmony and tolerance.
