"The tree had lived for 1000 years. For 1000 years it had welcomed the migratory cuckoo to call from its branches. Season by season ... the old gentle giants of the forest fell, and rotted away. Why was it that this old tree lived on and on?"

One of the 36 illustrations just completed for the book 'Taketakerau, The Millennium Tree', now available in New Zealand.

The book tells the story of a 2000 year old tree, and major events of New Zealand history, alongside a world timeline.
