Goodbye Johnathan

Initial sketch for an illustration about man who met a siren.
The story goes that this guy 'Johnathan' stayed behind in New Orleans when hurricane Katrina hit. His house was obliterated and he managed to escape but his fiance died in the flood when the house filled with water. He spent 3 days stranded on the roof of his house waiting for help. He says on the third night he heard his fiance shouting to him from the roof of another house across the road. He couldn't quite make her out but was pretty sure it was her.
After shouting at her to stay where she was, as it was too dangerous to swim across, he says he became aware of a presence behind him. He turns to see the decaying body of his fiance propped up and standing right in front of him. Her mouth bursts open with tentacles. He breaks down in tears and tells her he's sorry and he loves her.
The 'fiance' apparently says 'Goodbye' to him and is then elevated into the air before disappearing into the water. Johnathan is rescued and many years later recalls this story to a friend of his in a bar, saying he must have imagined the whole thing due to dehydration.
Listening in nearby is an old sailor, who very casually tells him that what he saw was real, and it was just a Siren taking pity on a broken hearted man.

Added colour and a little texture to image, though I don't feel it's grimey enough, want her to look more decomposed.
