This original sketch was a response to a design collaboration with furniture designer, Olivia Cyr. Simbiotek visited La Jolla cove, a local beach well known for its erosion patterns, to study the effects of erosion on the bluff rocks. In recording the natural behavior of the geological aggregate breakdown we found that layered patterning occurs. Each layer begins erosion by the systematic removal of rock fragments by environmental degradation around weak points along the surface. These points grow larger and larger until a single layer is removed.
This particular sketch was a graphic representation of this process following the path of each weak point migration to its adjacent neighbor. Learn more about the process here: http://bit.ly/OjCZok
