About Tiny Deer Studio
I am a photographer, baker and crafter living and working in Houston, Texas.
I’m drawn to simplicity in every aspect in life. Because of this I most often utilize only one light or available natural light in my photos to achieve moody and alluring patterns and focus. Subjects are surrounded with the colors and textures which speak most to my sensibilities and have varied from pine cones and moss to paper to my favorite dresses acting as sweeping backdrops for my tiny figures. Current favorites include a collection of Crystal and a collection of fallen branches from my grandmother's yard.
Many of my subjects have merely fallen into my life- beginning with the tiny, vintage bone china deer family (which I love most). The deer are a true mystery. They simply appeared in my old home one day - hidden in a vintage canister which I had never seen. They've inspired so many images and have encouraged me to start my own bone china miniature menagerie.
The Figures Series began in 2010 with the sole intention of making the man I love smile. It worked. It may have been the biggest spark to light the inspiration for all work that followed. The idea of capturing these still, sometimes realistic, figures and miniatures in the dark of any space I may call a studio was (and is) always rewarding.
