The day my father took me to the Cliffs of Untzabel to watch the Turtleship pass. I was seven. I think I remember it clearly, but my memory may have been since colored by the books i've read on the Royal Testudine Armada. It was a beautiful night. The sails were filled with that warm dessert wind, and the many constellations reflected off of the black eyes of the Turtle. I remember those eyes the most. They say the Testudine Pilot-Generals sit in a cerebral cock-pit, in conversation with the turtle. But I saw sadness. Sadness like the sadness in the eyes of a caged animal. Those great black onyx cabochons held centuries of suffering. I was only seven.

carving into wood to make what is basically a huge stamp, alot of fun--i haven't been able to do woodcuts since the printmaking class i took, for which this was done. hopefully i'll someday have the time/resources to do woodcuts again.
