About Amanda Clair Clark

As a child I would flip through my father's collection of National Geographic magazines and be captivated by the colorful photographs of foreign spice markets, ladies in their cultural dress, and exotic scenery. There is something magical about those images and the way colors pair together naturally. That is when I first fell in love with color.

My work is simple; I want to create beautiful gestural abstract paintings through the unique use of color. I use mostly acrylic paint. Sometimes I add glitter, oil pastels, or found objects to my paintings to inspire a desired emotion. I like to paint on canvas or salvaged wood.

Gestural abstract is a style of painting where the artist spontaneously splatters or smears paint onto a canvas. There are two schools of thought to this technique, color field and action painting, which I incorporate into many of my pieces.

A few of my influences in this style of art would be Sam Francis, Willem de Kooning, Joan Mitchell, Franz Kline, and Jean Michel Basquiat.

Thank you for reading my profile and I hope you enjoy the art.

Much Love
