God of War - Ghost of Sparta
Tribute:

God of War is a third person action-adventure video game developed by SCE Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. The first installment in the God of War series, it was first released on March 22, 2005 for the PlayStation 2 video game console. With more than 4.6 million copies sold worldwide as of June 2012, the game, along with its first sequel God of War II, were remastered and released on November 17, 2009 as part of the God of War Collection for the PlayStation 3 video game console.

Loosely based on Greek mythology, the game is set in Ancient Greece with the player controlling the protagonist Kratos, a Spartan warrior in the service of the Olympian Gods. Kratos is tasked by the goddess Athena to kill Ares, the God of War, who is also revealed to be responsible for Kratos accidentally murdering his wife and child. As Ares ravages Athens, Kratos embarks on a quest to find the one object capable of stopping the god: the legendary Pandora's Box. God of War is chronologically the third chapter in the series, and forms part of a saga with vengeance as a central theme.

Claimed as one of the best action-adventure games on the PlayStation 2 by multiple reviewers, the game has won over a dozen "Game of the Year" awards. In 2009, IGN named God of War the seventh best PlayStation 2 game of all time. The game has been highly regarded for its gameplay, graphics, sound, production, presentation, and story. Due to the success of the game, two sequels, God of War II (2007) and God of War: Betrayal (2007), a prequel, God of War: Chains of Olympus (2008), and two more sequels, God of War III (2010) and God of War: Ghost of Sparta (2010), have been released. God of War: Ascension, a planned prequel, is currently in development for a 2013 release. A novelization of the game was released in 2010 and a film adaptation has been in development since 2005.
