really nice work, that's a parrot fish I believe! I used to see those snorkelling in Hawaii, one of my favourite fishes. :)

Many Thanks Patricia and Shutter! Thank you Skye and Inourgarden, Alice and Bruce! Terry, yes it is a parrot fish! Happy you recognized him. I love how you can hear them pecking away at the coral when you are snorkeling with them. =)

Knowing your application of hand-drawn and digitally painted makes it all the more exciting to me. Kinda reminds me of inspirations from Graeme Base in a simpler line-drawn style. ♥♥♥ Really love it Catherine....these seascapey 'collages' are super wonderful!
GaleStorm Artworks commented on June 30, 2012 8:32am
...I've never been snorkeling...you really hear them tapping on coral? How exciting is that?? WOW.
Catherine Holcombe commented on June 30, 2012 10:01am
Thank you so much for the thoughtful comment Gale! There is really nothing like snorkeling in Hawaii. The warm water... You hear the fish...more like crunching...lol. the beauty of it and the feeling of flying above the scene, with very little sound, so peaceful and beautiful. Wish I could return there in the near future...

Gale, that is funny that you say that about Graeme Base, because I am reading "The sign of the Seahorse" to my son right now. I bought the book in the used section of the library because I LOVED the illustrations! That is quite a compliment!

It was my oldest son, that turned me on to Graeme Base...and I bought his books for gifts for him. He was one of the inspirations that led to my son's fine-art degree. I love that you found him and were reading his book to your son!! How COOL IS THAT??? :))) (Pssst. Also, your description of snorkeling, makes me want to try it) xo
