Kidnapped as a girl by the Crows (Absaroka), she grew up engaging in traditionally masculine activities. After her twin brother was murdered, she took an oath to never take a husband until she personally put 100 warriors to their graves to avenge his death. After accomplishing a set of tribal requirements, she eventually became a member of the Council of Chiefs and named Woman Chief.
