As part of the exclusive largest inland waterway system known as the Gippsland Lakes, Lakes Entrance is where a man-made entrance from the lake joins the Southern sea waters of Bass Strait; hence the name Lakes Entrance. Apart from the fresh seafood straight off the many fishing vessels, there are fine wines from the surrounding Districts to charming cafes (Incl., two floating restaurants), craft shops and significant refuges for wildlife and water birds in and around the uninhabitable Islands.
Strict local By-Laws have maintained the control of significant commercialism of this magnificent seaside resort with only “one high rise resort”.
