Gigantic Cliffs of the Ocean
by Chris' Landscape Images Of Australia
This is one of many gigantic limestone cliffs, known as the “Loch Ard Gorge”. Named after the clipper “Loch Ard”, an iron-hulled clipper ship weighing 1700tonne, it ran aground here in 1878 when sailing from England to Melbourne with 54 people aboard. Only two people survived, a cabin boy, named Tom Pearce and a young woman who Pearce saved, Eva Carmichael.
Strategic lookouts provide amazing views but descending down to the beach where these unique giants await in all there glory is something to behold. Tourists from around the world are in awe at the size of these uniquely formed cliffs.
