The Bad Girl of the Bayou
by Ed J Brown
"...on this day, 25 years ago, I was saved after receiving 4 bullet shots in the city of San Luis Potosi..." Such are the 'miracles' depicted in votive paintings that line the walls of many Mexican churches. Often harrowing and nearly always heart-warming, these paintings are commissioned by clients for a local artist to depict an event where their prayers have been answered.
I took the idea and layout of the votive as a vehicle to tell the story of a number of real accounts found in the newspapers of 20th century America.
