This is a mixed media of Cosette from Victor Hugo's classic, Les Misérables. It is one of my favorite books (and also my favorite musical). This piece shows her in the time when she lived with Monsieur and Madame Thénardier, who treat her like a servant. Luckily, her fortune soon changes as she is taken in by the kind Jean Valjean.
"In the place she is called The Lark. People like figurative names and were pleased thus to name this little being, not larger than a bird, trembling, frightened, and shivering, awake every morning first of all in the house and the village. Only the poor lark never sang."
