Feodor Protar, a Russian disciple of Leo Tolstoy, lived in the United States from 1893 until his death in 1925. He lived on Beaver Island, located in Lake Michigan, and acted as both a recluse and an island everyman, sometimes serving as a doctor for the other islanders. He was an island within an island.
This piece was made with cut paper elements, watercolour, and digital painting. (Protar is made entirely of paper!)
