it's a portrait of a man, inspired by the old masters, because of using their technique, but definitely a work from this century.
I took the title of this painting also for the title of my current exhibition, because hanging out in history is what I do now and did during the past 3 years, to refine my own paintingstyle...and this painting was allready sold on the opening last sunday!
I'm very happy!!

The style is XIX century, but the pose is very XX century. Good combination !! I like the look in her eyes...

thanks Oscar! in fact it's a boy, a man, but with influences of Rembrandt and Velasquez in the style of painting the materials, and ofcourse with a pearl to put an accent on the past again, because they were waring pearls in this centuries, women and men.

like Orlando, his/her ???? I know Velasquez because I studied fine arts in Seville (the Barroque painting is very important in this fine arts Faculty) and I learnt a lot of tecnics for this painters. It is a good work, congratulations !

You could try something with Goya, I think your style could connect with Goya spirit...

yes Oscar, Orlando!! that was my first idea for the title for this painting, and I thought, no one would understand this, but you did, great! this painting has the same title as my last exhibition, because that's what I did the last years, hanging out in history to examine the style of the past, mostly 17th century, and a bit later too, in other work, but wow, great studies you had, I am jalouse now...(no, I am an autodidact in painting, did graphic design and illustration before this), but I'm kidding, but yes, as you say, Goya, I have some books of him too, but it's different, his style...I have been climbing up and now I am looking at John Singer Sargent, and he was, in his days also a big fan of Velasquez! but this painting had a little succes, a good work as you say, I am a little proud now, it was sold on this exhibition in october, but hey, I have to move on, and continue developing my style, but thanks for the comment and the contact!

You are an autodidact, thats is awesome, your paintings are very fine and probably an academic training wasn´t necessary. Goya broke the realism rules in the last days of his life: poses, abstract backgrounds, imposible situations, distorsion, etc. Some of your last works have something like this.

I think about John Singer, and Spanish realism (from Greco to Antonio López), magical realism is a XX century style could be interesting for you (I don´t know if you already know it). This style was very famous in 60´s, 70's and 80's in South America and some european countries (from Botero to Eduardo Naranjo). You can search in Google (images) from this painters: Antonio López, Eduardo Naranjo and Carmen Latfon. When I was student I liked these painters.

what you say about spanish realism, I know, Antonio Garcia Lopez is a big favorite of me, I watched some things on you tube, but I never have seen his work in real, hope some day I do!! the other two you mentioned are really good too, we have a bit the same taste Oscar!! thanks for the information!

I understand what you mean with magical realism, especially by looking at Eduardo Naranjo...and that you say it could be an interesting style for me. I don't know what my paintings going to do and how my work is going to continue...with my past exhibition, people were talking about some kind of surrealism, with the painting 'the politician'. we will see...the idea with my next work is to develop more interesting backgrounds for my figures, because there were no backgrounds before, so I am interested, I feel since a while now, in making an environment where my figures can live in, I am looking for clouds and skies, landscapes and fields and I started this allready with the painting 'humble', but I have to continue this, with 'humble' this was just the beginning...

Yes, I saw the surrealism in your last works too, but close to the magical leg, not of classic like Dali. I do not why I saw the conection with the last works of Goya and your works, probably it was an insight, I don´t know it. The backgrounds were more important in 19th century realism than other periods. It is a good idea to work them. Luck with the new way !!

The works of Antonio López are awesome. I saw his famous anthology in Reina Sofia centre of Arts of Madrid in 90´s. There is an anthology in Boston, maybe, this anthology will tour fo Europe !!!
