When you’re standing in the shower enjoying the warm water for a few extra minutes after you’ve cleaned up, the idea of you wasting water is not usually something that comes to mind, is it? It is easy to think that our water supply is unlimited considering water covers over half of our planet. However, the clean water we have access too is more rare then you think. Only 3% of the world’s water is available to us to bathe in, drink, and grow crops.
“1.1 billion people worldwide lack access to water, and a total of 2.7 billion find water scarce for at least one month of the year”
Fresh water is a necessity in order to live a healthy lifestyle and we are very fortunate to have access to clean water every day when so many are less fortunate. My painting focuses on the theme of banality through the abundance and scarcity of water. The statement I wish to make with this piece is that we need to be reminded of the scarcity of the resources we take advantage of.
