Well shut the front door!!! Simplicity with so much profundity. This communicates so much more than what I see visually. I love it when I delve into the deeper meaning of an art piece.
Thank you, Meg, for promoting my work today! I know that you clicked the heart icon on my work because you like it… and I want to tangibly show my appreciation by giving this stunning piece of art that you've created additional exposure and a promotion too. It's truly awesome piece, just as your generous support of your fellow artists is worth admiring!
July, I hadn't seen that one (2010 and I joined 2011 and didn't start posting until this year), so no it wasn't intentional. My inspiration came from a close friend who loves puffins and who suggested the idea. I'd imagine more than one person has thought of puffins and pipe puffin' though. Are you thinking I should take this down? I wouldn't want to upset anyone.
Do not take this gorgeous drawing down, please disregard the comment. People focus a bit too much on whether or not an idea has been done before, then promptly make judgements. Terry Fan recently discussed this in a lengthy blog after he was accused of drawing a whale too similar to another artist's whale and putting "Moby" at the top. I mean, really. He actually found multiple "Moby" drawings all over the internet. It didn't make him any less original. Artists are clever people and so lots of topics and subject matter are oftentimes done over and over again as time passes.
Concepts and ideas can't be copyrighted so there is no real issue here. I enjoy seeing the different ways ideas are developed when done by different artists. This is a lovely image and so are the others and there will probably be more to come. So allow it to remain so others can enjoy it.
Thanks Rachel and Kathleen. I remember Terry's post about the Moby thing, but he's so established and I'm so new here I worry that people will think I go around stealing other people's ideas. And you're right, I googled puffin pipe and found five other versions. I guess puffin' puffin isn't a huge stretch. Thank you both for being so sweet and supportive!
Hi Meg - theres no need to take this down! our drawings are completely different, plus like you said the idea itself is a pretty obvious one that I'm sure a lot of people have already thought of.
Also, puffins are awesome!
Thanks Christopher, for your response and understanding. I was feeling really bad because I'd never do that to someone, and actually tried to find you to reach out, but couldn't find any contact info. I really appreciate you contacting me!
Thank you!
And yeah, puffins are awesome!
I had the idea recently to draw something like this... a puffin being a badass. I feel my attempt would never be as badass as this puffin, congrats! Love it!
Gwyn, thank you! This one is more Sherlock than badass, so I think you could go ahead with the badass idea! Maybe a cigar and some tatoos. . . Thanks again!
Lol : ) Can you imagine a stream of conciousness of a day in the life of a puffin? Not sure I could handle that! Thank you Kyle! For your lovely words and support! And the laugh! A happy Friday to you!
Thanks all!
