This is going to sound like a joke... but I'm being forreals. Meet people. Go to events, meetups, cocktail parties, with a stack of business cards - the ol' fashioned way! The sh*t works man...

hmm I have been wanting to get more involved in local meetups and galleries, time to make some business cards. Thanks man, that helps a lot! cheers!

I agree with Jason.
Just yesterday I was contacted by a classmate's husband to do a job. I casually pulled up my work on my phone one day during class.

Just keep going, pushing your style and portfolio. I think exposure is really important. Approach some design/ illustration blogs and ask if they will feature your work, join more places like S6, the greater your online presence the more opportunities should come your way. Plus all the other stuff these guys said.
