The original drawings are very intricate, produced with a 0.1pt black fine line pen in a little Moleskin sketch book. When enlarged as prints, the tiny marks degenerate and the drawings take on another dimension. Inspiration for these works comes from natural, earthy, textures. I enjoy the techniques employed by Alfred Wainwright in his illustrated guidebooks to the English Lake District. But where Wainwright's mark making vocabulary is used to describe actual places and things – trees, scree, grass and solid rock – my own palette is applied in an abstract 'un-natural' way, allowing strange new organic possibilities to emerge. Hope you enjoy.
