Built in 1881, This great old covered bridge in Chester County Pa is a single-span Burr arch truss 93’ 2.5” over Buck Run Creek. Located: On Frog Hollow Road (SR 3047), between East Fallowfield and West Marlborough Townships, Pennsylvania. The bridge was named for the the Jonathan Speakman Gristmill. Originally built at a cost of $2,000.00. The structure rests on stone and mortar abutments and has stone and mortar wing walls. The undercarriage of the bridge is supported with three steel I-beams set on concrete foundations in the middle of the stream. It has faded barn red painted vertical board and batten siding and portals. It is open under the eaves for ventilation. The floor consists of lengthwise planking laid on top of crosswise planking and it has a cedar shake roof.
It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 10, 1980.
