This was prompted by a recent front page article in the NZ Herald discussing the likelihood of volcanic events in Auckland in the not-too-distant future (geologically speaking), and reporting on recent scientific predictions about what form they might take.

Cheer up boaties – it appears scientists consider a marine eruption more likely than an eruption on land (Auckland's narrow isthmus already has 53 volcanic outlets). This painting depicts an imaginary slice of marine geology in Hauraki Gulf, where the volcanic cone of Rangitoto Island oversees all activity in the harbor.

Fossils painted from sketches made in the paleo lab work for Geology 101.

Acrylic on Arches Dessein 120 gsm art paper, 19"x 25". Sea, ocean, yacht, boat, waves, geology, shells, fossils, marine, strata, land, earth, rock, geology series.
