Birthdays, the yearly ritual of who looks younger and who looks older, as witnessed by a beloved 1950’s tin wind-up toy- a man dancing with a cane, is the pivotal character of this series. Watching and listening to the family’s history and secrets, he see so much, but reveal nothing, he is the Silent Witness.
Thought provoking piece. I use to dread birthdays in my 30's and 40's... but after losing some friends along the way, I realized that birthdays are blessings. Every single one of them. And to be in competition with anyone else but ourselves, is a waste of time. We need to all embrace the beauty of ourselves, whatever our age may be. Nice work, Pegeen :-) Happy New Year!
