ABOUT THE ART
Another Australian Dreamscape piece. This is based on the whimsical hinterlands of Australia, in particular, the areas of Mount Glorious and Mount Tamborine.
I originally came up with the idea for this scene at New Year in 2010. Some spectacular pine trees (Hoop Pine trees) grow just off my balcony, and they look brilliant in the afternoon light. There's one tree in particular that has a fantastic shape, which is what I based the one in this illustration on. Anyway. I first started this piece as a large acrylic painting (1.8m x 1.2m) but as I live in an apartment, this quickly became an obstacle and eventually became damaged. I really wanted to finish the piece, however, so I decided to start it from scratch as a digital illustration.
People tend to think of Australia as this dry, desert wasteland (which is true for a lot of it, something I wanted to romanticise in my previous piece); however it is also incredibly lush and covered with beautiful forests in many places. I wanted to capture a feeling of peace, awe, and beauty in this illustration. I hope you like it.
