ABOUT THE ART

US AND THEM

micron pen & colored pencil

The two pieces i did for U&T ended up being fairly similar, while looking fairly different. They're both topographical maps in which two separate places are connected, by a bridge in this piece, and by a isthmus in the other (the Isthmus of Ideology). Didn't plan on this (i realized their similarity after their conception) but i guess it must say something about how the phrase Us and Them resonated with me. I guess that my thoughts went in the direction of a connection between us and them, a point of egress and ingress for either party; no matter how irreconcilable differences (minor or major) may seem, there's always a land-bridge, somewhere, where we can meet and have tea and trade baseball cards. Maybe that place is art.

I simply love the symbolism in this... What separates us is this river and the "mythical" stuff that live in it. The river is real (differences in appearance, character etc. exist and are welcome). The "mythical" stuff is fictional (money, political or spiritual believes, society status etc.). Your bridge represents wisdom and acceptance, beyond the"mythical" stuff.

Efi, thank you for such a wonderful interpretation, i absolutely love it!! I did intend for it to be symbolic, but you've uncovered wonderful new layers :)
