ABOUT THE ART

Taken from my "campsite" (parked jeep with seats folded down). In the wee hours of the night I was able to take several long exposures of the night skies above Sedona's famous red rocks. Several memorable days and nights spent here that I will never forget.

Thanks Dee! Moonlight and starlight work pretty good, with a stable enough tripod :)

Glad you like it Rainer. I'm really happy with how clear this one came out (thank you, trusty tripod!).

Love the composition here -- lots of space for that beautiful sky, but lots of the lovely rock formations too. Red and blue look great together like this, too.
Shaun Terhune commented on March 12, 2013 2:13pm
Thank you Cameron! What I loved so much was how the soft moonlight was highlighting the tops of those red rock formations.
Kitsmumma commented on March 12, 2013 8:05pm
That's amazing and hard to believe it's a night shot, the tops of those rocks look as thought they are lit by sunlight but it's moonlight!!!! That sky is sooo blue. Gorgeous work.
Shaun Terhune commented on March 13, 2013 11:21am
Thanks! This photo is completely unedited. I was as amazed as you are. Once I got the correct exposure dialed in, the shots I got here were magic.

Great! Very interesting night shot where you picked up so much light. Out in the desert there is so much light from the stars, which in the city, you don't see! :)
Shaun Terhune commented on August 7, 2013 6:11am
Yes! I even picked up some highlights on the top of the mesa from the moon, as you can see. I love this photo so much.

Great! (and always wanted to go there!)
va103 commented on November 8, 2013 2:39pm
And very nice description! It's always nice to learn little stories how, where and when :)
Shaun Terhune commented on November 8, 2013 2:56pm
Thank you. It's truly a magical place, though it can get overrun with tourists. I have a few other photos from Sedona where you can see a remote red road that I followed - it IS possible to get way out there and avoid the crowds. There's a US Forest Service road that no one really knows about.
