ABOUT THE ART

The ride to Pangong Lake is almost like embarking on some sort of treasure hunt...except of course that there is only one road and you can never lose your way! What you do lose once in a while is your breath.

Traverse high altitudes, rough terrain and roads, the Chang La pass over 5000m high...over a hundred kilometers of mind-blowing landscapes...and then suddenly in the middle of these golden mountains lays a sight to behold...a devastating shade of blue.

Pangong Tso is an endorheic lake in the Himalayas situated at a height of about 4,350 mts. It is 134 km long and extends from India to China. 60% of the length of the lake lies in China. The lake is 5 km wide at its broadest point. During winters the lake freezes completely, despite being saline water.

The brackish water of the lake is devoid of any micro-vegetation. Is is said that there are no fish or other aquatic life in the lake, except for some small crustaceans. On the other hand, one see numerous ducks and gulls over and on the lake surface. There are some species of scrub and perennial herbs that grow in the marshes around the lake.

The lake acts as an important breeding ground for a variety of migratory birds. During summer, the Bar-headed goose and Brahmini ducks are commonly seen here. The region around the lake supports a number of species of wildlife including the kiang and the Marmot.

Not that the sunset shots and rainbows aren't also beautiful, they are... I was just taken with the mountains when I saw them.

Mira, maybe you should come to India and see the mountains for yourself :) https://www.facebook.com/CoSurvivorPh...?ref=br_rs
