Framed Art Print

Rachel Caldwell (thirstyfly)

White-backed Vulture

by Rachel Caldwell

Choose from a variety of frame styles, colors and sizes to compliment your favorite Society6 gallery, or fine art print - made ready to hang. Fine-crafted from solid woods, premium shatterproof acrylic protects the face of the art print, while an acid free dust cover on the back provides a custom finish. All framed art prints include wall hanging hardware.

The White-backed Vulture is a typical vulture, with only down feathers on the head and neck, very broad wings and short tail feathers. It has a white neck ruff. Like other vultures it is a scavenger, feeding mostly from carcasses of animals which it finds by soaring over savannah. It also takes scraps from human habitations. It often moves in flocks. It breeds in trees on the savannah of west and east Africa, laying one egg. The population is mostly resident. As it is rarer than previously believed, its conservation status was reassessed from Least Concern to Near Threatened in the 2007 IUCN Red List.

I love the detail in the face. Did this take forever?
Rachel Caldwell commented on May 19, 2012 9:14am
Thanks, everybody. Thanks, Amy. No, it didn't take forever, it took about 5 hours or so. I did it over two nights. It was about 16" x 12" in the end.
