ABOUT THE ART

PEOPLE ORDERING SHOULD KNOW DHL IS CHARGING A BROKER FEE OF ATLEAST $12 PER ORDER. SORRY THIS IS OUT OF MY CONTROL BUT SOMETHING I FEEL YOU SHOULD BE AWARE OF. I'VE ASKED SOCIETY 6 TO PERHAPS CONSIDER ANOTHER SHIPPING OPTION TO CANADIANS BUT ONLY GOT A STANDARD REPLY LETTER BACK.

On June 20th my city experienced one of the worst floods in our country's history. We watched entire houses float down the Bow River and found out days later that hippos almost escaped from the zoo. Just when we thought the worst was over, a damaged railway bridge collapsed. Five railway cars filled with petroleum almost submerged into the river.

Thankfully our emergency services, city workers and zoo employees reacted quickly with well thought out plans to avoid greater disaster. I have a friend who works for 911 - he asked "What's next? Godzilla?" This poster was inspired by him.

I am so impressed with our mayor, emergency services, utilities and civic employees. Communication was always clear and it seemed they always had a specific plan. Thousands of volunteers are still cleaning up and our city will recover from this.

I will donate all profits from this poster to charities that directly help flood victims. I work in Calgary's creative industry and I wouldn't say this is my best work (tight timeline) but I hope it brings some levity to this terrible situation.

Capri Rasmussen commented on June 29, 2013 12:18am
hello, do you have the YYCflood image as notecards/postcards?
KeliGirl commented on June 29, 2013 9:46am
Hi Capri, I'm not sure how to create the note cards. Society 6 just seems to randomly add them - it doesn't give me the option to do it. I'm away this weekend but will look into it on Monday. Thanks for the note. Keli

What a brilliant idea, I'm definitely supporting this cause as a fellow Calgarian resident with 3 t-shirts. You should post links to all the fb cleanup groups, and even setup a funraising goal, and a specific beneficiary (say Red Cross, the DI Centre, etc.).
Kim Gray commented on June 29, 2013 3:11pm
People are having a hard time ordering this print! And they're complaining that it's not taking their credit card info properly. Can you check this out? Toque & Canoe (www.toqueandcanoe.com)
Jennifer Meil commented on June 29, 2013 5:42pm
Do the proceeds from all the yycflood products get donated or just the poster?
Rand Al-Hashmy commented on June 29, 2013 10:37pm
Hi Kelsi, love the shirts! I'm in Calgary, is there any way I can buy one in person rather than shopping online and having to wait? :)
Rand Al-Hashmy commented on June 29, 2013 10:38pm
Sorry, Keli :)
KeliGirl commented on June 30, 2013 2:31am
Thanks Carlos, it's all happening so fast. I'll definitely look into your suggestions. I also know Suncor will double all donations made to The Calgary Foundation.
KeliGirl commented on June 30, 2013 2:33am
Kim, I'll try to contact Society6 and see what's up. Any specific error you're getting?
KeliGirl commented on June 30, 2013 2:37am
Hi Jennifer, everything I make from Society6 (yycflood) will go to charity. Note that: Totes and Ts only make $1.80/$2.00 whereas prints make $10 - $12 profit. I guess there's more overhead for the fabric products.
KeliGirl commented on June 30, 2013 2:43am
Rand, if I can find a printer and paper company to support us, I'll get some printed hopefully for parade day. I'll post more on Tuesday when business is back to normal. Thx
Jen Pederson commented on June 30, 2013 12:35pm
Absolutely wonderful artwork, Keli, I just love it. I've worked for charities for many years and definitely echo Carlos's suggestion that you specify where you're planning on donating the money and, just as importantly, let them know and set up an agreement with them. With the outpouring of support for your city, you never know how an established charity might be able to leverage donations (matches, like you mentioned), or could help to spread the word. I will be getting one to hang in my office in Saskatoon!
KeliGirl commented on June 30, 2013 8:59pm
Thanks for the note Jen. I hope to come up with a plan this week. I honestly just created this for my friend at 911 on Thursday night. It started to spread virally via Facebook on Friday and people requested copies. I quickly got the artwork up on this site and decided to donate any profits to charity. The support has already been amazing after just two days. I'm away for the weekend and found out my studio finally got power back yesterday - so I've got some catching up to do.

I heard Suncor will double any donations to The Calgary Foundation and I also know the seniors in my neighbourhood, East Village, could use some help. I'll post some goals and recipients on my profile this week. Cheers, Keli

Love this print and am having a hard time deciding which size to buy. I like the medium 17x21 print but am wondering if this is a standard size, or will it be difficult to find a frame for it? It will go into my son's room (toddler).
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
orange elephant commented on July 3, 2013 12:58pm
Hi KeliGirl - great image. Says it all, and than some! Question: is the print that big on the t-shirt? Do you know if it can be sized down a bit? Thanks!
KeliGirl commented on July 4, 2013 7:18am
Sue, I've been using the 17 x 21 prints for donations to silent auctions. Ikea has a frame, FJALLSTA that's 19.75" x 21/5". I don't use the window mat but just hang the print on a white mat found at Michaels. It's easy to do and the frame is $32 - perfect for a kiddy room. Thanks for your support.
KeliGirl commented on July 4, 2013 7:23am
Orange Elephant, I agree with you on the sizing of the T and hoodie artwork. Unfortunately, I don't have creative control over this. I upload the artwork and Society6 takes over. I'm hoping the way it's displayed is just an easy template for the online cataloging and the printers use design sense for layout and sizing. I haven't seen any printed yet but will let you know if I happen to see one around. I ordered to the tote bags and will also let you know if the sizing is 'as is' online. Thanks for the note. Keli

Hi Keli!
My name is Shifrah Gadamsetti, and I am working with a fundraiser happening on July 6th, 2013.
I was wondering if we could chat a little bit more about your product! I am a huge fan of it! Already got my order in! Please email me at studentfloodrelieffundraiser@gmail.com so I could get in touch with you or if you could post an email I could contact you at, that would be great! Thanks!
KeliGirl commented on July 4, 2013 10:37pm
Hi Shifrah, you can contact me at keli@kelipollock.com Cheers, Keli
Jill commented on July 6, 2013 10:10pm
Hi Keli,
We really like your print and were wondering what the fire breathing dragon signifies.
Thanks, Jill
KeliGirl commented on July 8, 2013 4:38pm
Hey Jill, if you read the description above it refers to my friend's comment about "Godzilla being next". A lot happened in our city over a weeks period and we all wondered when the insanity would end. K
modano23 commented on July 10, 2013 6:54pm
Got the pic today, and it's really nice. A tad annoyed a C.O.D charge of 12.95 was added on top of the 10.00 shipping. A bit much for something that's supposed to be for "charity"
KeliGirl commented on July 14, 2013 9:11pm
The COD charge is DHL's cross boarder broker fee. A little outrageous for small purchases.

YOU CAN REFUSE THE SHIPMENT if you do not want to pay this fee. Sadly we'll raise less money for charity but I would not blame anyone. I'm guessing DHL will make about $15,600 from our sales. Sad that charity will get about $9000. I've contacted Society 6 about using the US Postal Service (no broker fees) and got a standard form letter that didn't really address my question.
Terry MacKenzie commented on July 16, 2013 9:33pm
I am with modano23 - free shipping but there is a charge of $11.16, $10 of which is the fee for paying the taxes of $1.16? This is the most expensive tshirt I have bought in a while, but I guess a bit goes to charity and I got a lot of attention wearing it tonight. And it is fun. (But my last order for sure)
Cameron Campos commented on July 17, 2013 4:58pm
I was surprised with the COD charge as well ($11.00); thanks for clarifying in the previous post. The free shipping offsets that cost, and at the end of the day, I love the shirt! Thanks for making it and for donating the profits!

KeliGirl commented on July 18, 2013 1:41pm
Terry and Cameron, thanks for the note. I agree, ordering from this site really isn't an option in the future as the "broker" fee is outrageous.
KeliGirl commented on July 18, 2013 1:42pm
Hi Mr Park, nice to hear from you. Hope all is well down east. Keli
KeliGirl commented on July 18, 2013 1:42pm
Thanks Rexfish Art - YYC appreciates it. K

It's somewhat dryer than you guys. But only just. Hope everything is getting put back together ok. Been thinking about you all, and hoping everything is ok.
Killa Burkinshaw commented on July 19, 2013 9:08pm
Hey Keli! Just a quick question can we still get t-shirts??
KeliGirl commented on July 26, 2013 9:32am
Yes you can order t-shirts Killa. Please note the extra broker fees that Society 6 does not mention. Expect to pay an extra $12 COD per item.
KeliGirl commented on July 26, 2013 9:39am
Hi Everyone, I got a complaint yesterday about a t-shirt not fitting someone. Please know that I simply post the artwork and Society 6 (which I have no ownership or say in) full fills the orders. If you are unhappy with your merchandise, please return it. Return it like any other items you purchase online that you are not satisfied with. And if you get surprise broker fees (like we all did) that you do not wish to pay, simply refuse to accept the parcel. It will be returned and Society 6 says they will refund your order.
