This piece is part of the "Common Ground" series of work. It celebrates women who make it a statement to wear their curlers out in public. I grew up in Bridgeport in Chicago and remember the ladies in the neighborhood getting completely dressed to go out, make-up ready, outfits on, but the only thing they would be waiting for is their hair to curl. Standing in front of the Bodegas talking with the other ladies, they had style, swagger, attitude.
