It turned out perfect! Love the red tones and yellow sky!
Sharon Gochenour commented on November 27, 2011 10:16am
Thanks! I was worried having a bright blue sky would break up the picture too much.

Thanks very much for all your kind comments! I miss Boston so much. It's based on a photo and I thought it needed something a little whimsical. . . thus the flying petals.

Very detailed illustration. Love it! Carpe Diem
Sharon Gochenour commented on March 29, 2012 11:34am
@Laura, Noel, and Luis -- thanks very much! I am definitely inclined toward detailed pen and ink work. :) @ Balazs -- Thank you! I think the overall color scheme came as much from a feeling of nostalgia and missing the city as it did from any ideas about color theory or composition.
Cate Pedersen commented on March 30, 2012 7:41am

@Cate -- thank you! I studied architecture and daylighting design in college, so even though I'm not planning on becoming an architect (:/) I'm happy I can use my experience in illustration. :)

Wonderful!
Sharon Gochenour commented on December 1, 2013 2:36am
My goodness! I have a hard time keeping up with the comments on this piece.

@iPixel-Ana, Lion Clown, Amy Fan, Christopher Dina, morgaen muñoz, JenHoney -- thank you so much for the kind words!

@Autumn McCleod -- thank you! I admit that some of the color choices were made because I have some favorite pigments in my watercolor palette that I introduce into nearly every painting I do. :D

@ SixPixelDesign -- thanks. I honestly think of this painting more as a fragment of my memories of Boston, as colored by my wish to go back there.

@ Lior Blum -- thanks. In spring, the sidewalks on Commonwealth Avenue are COVERED in magnolia blossom petals, so I thought about what would happen if they got a proper wind blowing down that street.

@ EbiEmporium -- thanks! I spent a lot of time clutching a Micron pen for this one. :P

@Joao -- I remember feeling like I would NEVER EVER finish that dang tree with all those dang flowers. :) This kind of drawing is a bit like knitting -- soothing repetitive work.

@Tyler & Pom -- thanks very much!
