Legend has it that, at midnight every New Years Eve, this huge monolith near Birsay on West Mainland in the Orkney Islands, travels down to the nearby Loch of Boardhouse, for a drink. One year, a local lad decided he was going to watch this happen, so he hid near the stone to watch it move. His crushed body was found the following morning. So is the fence around the stone to protect it from the sheep or..................?
