We're planning on working in some twitter integration soon. We'll be looking at all the actions from Society6 that make sense to broadcast out as tweets from you. At a minimum any posts you make can be reposted onto your twitter account as tweets, with a link back to the full post on Society6. We understand how important it is for all of you artists and creatives to promote your work and inspiration to the widest possible audience and we certainly want to make that happen for you. Feel free to leave a comment and tell us what you think of the twitter integration and how important you think it is.

Along with monetary grants, we will also be providing the platform for individuals and organizations to give opportunities as grants, like printing services, promotion, artist in residence, gallery space and anything else our creative members come up with. If you have any ideas or know anyone with an opportunity or resource that would make a great grant on S6, please let us know. We have a bunch of great opportunities lined up and will be rolling them out very soon.

A quick post to highlight the efforts of one of our members, Daniel James Diggle. He's invited other illustrators from S6 to do a collaborative illustration project. He set up a Studio to make it happen so if you are interested head over to the Studio and request to be a member (click on Members, then click "Apply for membership") Once you're approved you can make posts too. Read is post here for more details. http://collaborateillustrate.society6...Illustrate

I wanted to say a few things about the Studio feature of Society6. First off let me say that we are really excited about all the great posts and Studios being created on Society6. It's a powerful feeling to see how people use the tools you create and how all the different uses evolve over time.

When we designed Society6 we wanted to create a system that was fitting for artists and creative people in the arts. One of the best things about creative people is just that, their creative. So when it came to make a space for showcasing their work, passions and projects we labored over how to do this in a way that would give flexibility and powerful features. In the end we settled on a more open format and called them Studios, with the idea that creative people would use them in a variety of different ways. We know alot of creative people and one thing they have in common is that they have alot going on - whether these are projects, collaborations, types of work, ventures, galleries or whatever. The Studios let you create places to post about all the things you're doing and manage them all from one place. As a society6 member you can have, or be a Member of many Studios, I have 11 Studios right now. At the same time it's important not to have more than you need as this can get hard to manage.

We've seen some great uses of Studios so far and we hope to see many more. One of the things to point out is that Studios can have multiple Members, these are people who can post to the Studio, change the header and do all these types of things.

There are other great ways that Studios can be used;
-Collaborative projects
-Virtual Galleries
-To present the work of your collective, band or group
-As a place to show your work in process
-Different Studios for your different types of work
-A blog for your venue, gallery or self
-A place to share reference

So again we welcome all creative uses of the Studios and encourage everyone to use them in new an inventive ways. We used this platform for many months and used the system itself to collaborate about how we wanted it to work. At one point it worked better for us than email. Enjoy the system and feel free to use it for your collaborations, groups, ventures and all the great ways you are using it today.

Collaborations on Society6
From the very beginning we were always inspired by the idea of collaborations occurring organically on society6. We support creativity (obviously) and we want to foster opportunities of all kinds, mainly because we want to see more art getting made in this world.

Recently and during our initial private beta phase our new friend Kelly Williams | and my wife Tatiana Wills | were introduced to each other's work through the site and decided to do a photoshoot of Kelly for his new book, coming out soon. Today they did the shoot and had a blast. Much thanks to Kelly and his wife for cooking up some good food and sharing their creative spirit. Tatiana is processing the digital shots and will be posting a preview soon, so stay tuned. We're looking forward to some info from Kelly on his upcoming book as well.

We also want to encourage everyone who joins society6 to follow this example and spark collaborative projects from within society6 or use society6 as a tool to run them. The Studio feature is in fact a great way to host a virtual collaboration, like a group project. There can be many members of a studio and they can all post, so it's perfect for a collaboration where different artists riff on the same theme or idea. These are just a few examples and ideas, as creative people I'm sure all of you can come up with more and we look forward to seeing them in the future. thx jw

Grants authored by individuals
The grants system on Society6 is designed to create the first micro-grant community/ecosystem for the Arts where Artists, Curators and Supporters of the Arts can engage in a rewarding process that is otherwise fragmented and frustrating. In addition to grants from individuals, both Non and For profit organizations will be able to easily distribute grants to this community as well. Together they will help to create more opportunities for established and emerging artists and curators to continue their art and the showcasing of artists they love.

People & Posts
We started Society6 because we believe the time has come to Empower the World's Artists. We have big plans for Society6 and we need your help. So here's the deal...

The more people and posts we have, the greater the experience will be - and the more opportunities we can provide for all of our members. Don't worry, features like Promotions, Following, Subscriptions and the Charts will help you continue to filter the experience.

So we're calling on you to get behind the movement by inviting all your friends; whether they are fellow Artists, Curators, Collectors, Fans or just people who love art... invite them to join today. When you do, invite them to share as well. We all want to see their work or see them curate the work of Artists they love.

Just click on the drop down by your name and select "Invite". From there you can send a personalized message to your friends or just use the one we wrote for you. When they join they will automatically be following you, so you'll know when they come in.

Once again thanks for being a part of this experience. We want you all to know that this is your community, and in years to come we will all remember the start of a movement that shaped the Arts. If you have any questions please feel free to leave a comment here or
contact us.
Society6 is Now Open 3.23.09!
We're proud to announce that as of 9:00:06pm PDT last night, Society6 opened for all Artists and supporters to join!

We have been cranking away to open Society6 for a while now, so this is another great milestone for what we believe is just the beginning of something very special.

Without all of the help and support from our fellow Members, Society6 is just another pile of pixels, so thank you all very much.

All of us behind the scenes at Society6 consider it our mission to empower the world's artists. We also consider Society6 a work in progress of it's own. So, we wanted to begin by rewinding and begin to share with everyone how we got here...

Our friend is an Artist. She was invited to show her work a prestigious art show. When she couldn't scrape together the funds to go, we knew there was a problem. We realized that this happens every day to emerging (and established) Artists from every creative discipline from every corner of the globe. So, we created Society6 in the hopes that this would never happen again.

Please remember that as a Member you can invite your network to join you in Society6 by clicking "Invite" from the drop-down menu under your name at the top of the page. If you are feeling what we're doing, please show your support by helping us attract more Artists, so that we can in-turn attract more Artist Grant resources for our Members.

As always, your feedback (good and bad) gives us the perspective that we're going to need as we continue to polish and improve the Society6 experience every day.

This is one of many big moments for Society6, and we appreciate you taking part!
