Purikura Portrait 1: "Me and My Robot"
by Lukas Stobie
Today I’m beginning a new project; Purikura Portraits.
Purikura is short for “Print Club”, which is a type of photo-booth machine popular in Japan. The photo-booth allows the user to customize & write messages on their photos, and then print them out as stickers. They do however tend to distort reality a bit, often lightening skin and enlarging eyes. Often the end result doesn’t fully resemble the user.
Nevertheless they are kind of fun to use. So for a small project I have decided to do a Purikura themed set of portraits. It allows me to continue to explore the themes of Japanese culture my previous work has. So today is piece 1; titled “Me and My Robot”, or “私と私のロボット.”
