Earth, the third planet from the Sun, is the largest of the terrestrial (or Rocky) planets. Fully 70% of the planet's surface is covered by water. It has the strongest magnetic field of any terrestrial planet, though the Gas giants have much stronger fields. The Earth is geologically active, with plate tectonics producing volcanoes, earthquakes, and continental drift. It is the only planet known to support life.
