From the large acrylic on canvas by Florida artist, Lee Libro. Sometimes called Guanyin, Quan Yin is known in Buddhism as the female bodhisattva associated with compassion. Also often named Guanyin, the name is short for Guanshiyin which means "Observing the Sounds (or Cries) of the World". I painted Quan Yin to represent this compassion on both the interpersonal and macrocosmic levels, here depicted to represent a human mother, with the cell of creation behind her, and also as a cosmic mother figure, as she peacefully floats on a lotus across the earth.
