When I started this series, I thought that instead of just naming the piece stripes #, I could attach a name of a person as a way to show them I appreciate their kindness. The pictures are not about the person whose name is attached. In some cases I had hoped that I could help bring awareness of particular artist's work to a larger audience. In some cases, it is merely just a means for me to say thank you, as I wanted to celebrate artists who have shown me kindness regardless to how well they are doing with sales or popularity. Obviously, I will not be able to celebrate every artist that has shown me kindness with 24 images, and for that I'm very sorry. I never intended for the random naming process to become a popularity contest, and I sincerely hope that everyone recognizes how much I appreciate their kindness. We are a very large community, and my intention was to remind folks of the richness and talent of a random sampling of folks who may or may not have ever had their names featured on the front page. Kindness and giving back is what unites us and these works.
While I believe that art needs to have a strong visual component to draw the viewer in, all of my work has a conceptual premise at its roots. This body of work is no different, but the theory that dictates the construction of this series has changed significantly from previous series of work. I will release a statement about the work when the series has been completed and is public. Until then, lets just say that it has more in common with abstract expressionism than first appearances might lead anyone to assume.
