Great work Wayne! I like it a lot
Wayne Edson Bryan commented on December 16, 2012 6:34am
Thanks, Catspaws! I appreciate your thoughtful open-mindedness! Yes, the presentation is not very glitch-like, but in the mind of conservative tastes it's definitely shaking-it-up error! ;-)
Wayne Edson Bryan commented on December 16, 2012 6:42am
Thank-you, Brian, Klara, and Laertis! The work really has little to do with human sexuality... it's more about how the aesthetics of paint drips have become an obsession for some.
Wayne Edson Bryan commented on December 16, 2012 7:15am
Thanks so much, Tini! I think change is good... and I appreciate art that pushes the line, is different and intellectually engaging! Like you, I think that art can be a platform to communicate our frustrations with styles, attitudes, or with the plethora of boring, meaningless, and derivative art.
Catspaws commented on December 16, 2012 7:24am
a lot of the latter but you are educating folk to think differently :)
Wayne Edson Bryan commented on December 16, 2012 7:27am
Thank you, Dragos! There's three kinds of space in this image: the flatness of the actual surface, the illusionary 3-D hovering drips and brushstrokes that cast shadows, and the photograph which is very highly pixelated. I appreciate you taking the time to notice more than first glance would assume! :-)
Wayne Edson Bryan commented on December 16, 2012 8:15am
Thank you, Nicklas! It's good to know who the small percentage of intellectually courageous people are! Quality, not quantity is the important thing about both friends and art!
Wayne Edson Bryan commented on December 16, 2012 8:41am
Thanks, Catspaws... but I seriously doubt that the folks that need to be challenged and that could benefit from learning different perspectives actually will take the time to read this. Another aspect of this piece is that the paint is digitally created. I scanned ink images and painstakingly made them textured and 3-D without the benefit of any automatic software. Similar to the faux antique look of processed photography (another kind of porn), I chose to create paint artificially to communicate an analogy to these textured photos... culturally, deceptive effects are the norm, not the exception.
Catspaws commented on December 16, 2012 8:47am
yes you have a point, well several in fact:) must have taken a long time to do the paint digitally
Wayne Edson Bryan commented on December 16, 2012 10:23am
Bless you, Catspaws! Your consistent thoughtfulness and kindness is an exception to the norm that I'm very thankful for!
