Brilliant, I love it!!
Jacqueline Maldonado commented on January 25, 2013 6:51pm
I take it you are anti-chevron, owl, birds on wires, and polaroid cameras as subject matter? But what is Jesus doing there? I like it :)
Wayne Edson Bryan commented on January 25, 2013 6:57pm
Thanks, Donuts and Jacqueline! I'm not anti-anything... people are more than welcome to use the same imagery over and over and over and over... :-) Just having some fun... call it my version of Nearly The Last Supper, as there's only one more to go!
Jacqueline Maldonado commented on January 25, 2013 7:05pm
Don't worry- I didn't take it seriously! But it is a fine work of art :)

Wayne Edson Bryan commented on January 25, 2013 9:34pm
Thanks a bunch, Manu! The irony in all this is that the decorative chevrons, bokeh, owls, and other banality is exactly what the public wants and buys. I say more power to the makers of the tried and traditional... they get all the money! I personally need to make unique and challenging art that requires thought to be fully appreciated. That's why my work will never be on the S6 front page in a million years and why I'm going back to the museums and galleries where in the past I was able to make a real living for my family. I had hoped that I could be successful part of the mix here at S6, but I've discovered (based on sales and lack of S6 FP promotional support) that there is just no quarter for my kind of art in the print on demand industry and from the customers they attract. Its cool... my paintings sell for thousands; I'll be better than fine... and I wish you all great success in what ever you choose to do! Peace! :-) One more NO series to go... Oh Yeah! ✯ ✯ ✯ ✯ ✯ 👍
Pegeen Shean commented on January 25, 2013 11:40pm
Another Great piece!! Wayne your work is wonderful and you should still pursue galleries and museums. The way I see it, the online stores such as S6 is just another tool for exposure. You have exposed your art to hundreds of fellow artists and buyers that would not have seen your work otherwise, at little cost. You never know where that will lead--

Bruce Stanfield commented on January 26, 2013 6:48am
Wayne, so true on your last comment, My originals do not go for thousands at galleries, hundreds lol, but I make more feel better when an original sells! full stop, certain artists I think can make a living doing both, but I think it is more the illustrators that suits the Pod/Print sites, I like it as a bit of fun, and don't get upset when sales are slow or dry up, I know others do get upset and I urge them not to! it is nothing personal, keep creating have fun with it I say, Hitlers art was rejected ~ he took it personally and look what happened! drastic OTT point I am making is well you get the point, also, with these sites like S6, if we do the math at how many images are up loaded at any given moment on hundreds of sites, chances of being view is like winning the lottery, let alone a sale! I have enjoyed S6 in particular as a social supportive community and great place to learn and share plus being inspired to try new things! just saying........:)
Bruce Stanfield commented on January 26, 2013 6:50am
I also agree with Peegan and forgot to add, that yep, the exposure is great and it is nice to have a web site gallery of our work to show case our work to the world ! :)

Thank you, Ken and Pegeen! :-) I agree... it's good exposure, but it's hardly free. I'll not be the one that pulls the plug on my account, (I'm guessing S6 will shut me down from inactivity asap). For well over a year I've sat and clicked my mouse for earnings that can't support a month of bills. I wish that I could stick around, but earning a living has to come first. Since starting here, I've met many great people, learned Photoshop, and also learned a lesson or two about how the fast food equivalent to the art world works. I have no regrets! One more pic and another thousand promotions for my supporting peeps to go. :-)

Wayne Edson Bryan commented on February 26, 2013 3:11pm
@k_c_s, ... and I've got just a little unsolicited advise for you, my friend, if you're looking to make money, art is the wrong business. If you wanna make art, "what sells" shouldn't be your first consideration. What I'm attempting to do with these works is to comment on that paradox, within the genre of visual art that has been popularized by artists like Jeff Koons and Damien Hirst. I know that it is over the heads of most of S6's customers, but I personally gotta make art that I can be proud to have my name associated with, regardless of whether it is understood and appreciated by most of the general public. Just saying... ;-)
k_c_s commented on February 26, 2013 5:51pm
Of course all of this stuff begs the old question of 'art' vs. 'craft' -- but in this case, 'art' vs. 'design/graphics/commercialism.' I certainly don't believe that 'art' and 'craft' are necessarily distinct; the same could be said for 'art' and commercially 'available' design. Something can be 'sellable' and read well for the popular aesthetics and still be art. I admire the work of a lot of people who are making 'pretty' designs. (I, too, am tired of some of the same, same, same design elements etc that show up again and again.) That being said, I appreciate the distinction you are making. You make art to make art. To express, to push boundaries, engage in (or at least start) conversations. And if you set out to make money making art, that already at least puts a chink in the process, and can certainly influence your outcome. Most of what I do is really more on the 'design' (i.e. surface design) end of things. And I do find that some of the stuff I've tried to make to respond to a commercial draw...I really don't like as much. I mostly put the stuff that I don't use for surface design on S6. So I don't expect to necessarily make money on these pieces. But of course I'd love to. :-) I get what you're saying, and I thank you.
Wayne Edson Bryan commented on February 26, 2013 7:00pm
Thank you, k_c_s! Reading your comment brought a smile to my heart that has grown calloused in recent months. Sometimes I feel very alone in my need to create art that challenges the status quo and provokes some kind of second level of thought. Obviously, S6 is not the appropriate venue for me, which in some kind of perverse way has been pushing me even harder to make it work... and like you, when I've compromised in the past, for the sake of creating something that I think might be popular, I've always been disappointed with both myself and the work. I wish us both luck at finding the sweet spot that satisfies each of our respective heads, hearts and financial responsibilities! ;-) Get down!

Wayne, if you're not already selling these in galleries for thousands I hope you eventually will! Your art is great! Gallery curators are shmucks, though... forgive me if you're fond of any... I'm just a bit jaded since I've never had any legit representation. ;)
Wayne Edson Bryan commented on May 18, 2013 5:54pm

Wayne Edson Bryan commented on May 20, 2013 6:29am
@Morgan: Keep looking for a rep... There are shmucks in every industry, but it shouldn't keep you from finding the good ones. I've been very fortunate to have had both personal and business relationships with 2 outstanding art dealers and have many friendships with museum curators. Perhaps it's my perspective or location, but for the most part, curators, dealers, and art consultants have always been open, honest, generous and very helpful for me.

I like Jesus, owls, "pushed up" bras, and drive thru burgers; that said, I found your conversations within this comment section to be quite illuminating, and you should think about putting some of your thoughts into the description section, as that's probably what most people read. I think all art has meaning to someone. People buy what they like. That doesn't make what they like to buy less relevant as art.
