Mossy Batiks
About The Artist
I’m a Kanata, Illahee Chuck settler living on the traditional territories of the Lekwungen peoples, represented by the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations. I have been exploring art all my life and gravitate towards the natural environment, colour and light. The technique I use is Batik. This form of art is usually done on fabric and dates back to Egyptian times. I used to Batik T-Shirts. For the past two decades I’ve been creating this way of art on watercolour paper. I’ve found applying Batik in this way profoundly enhances the colour and detail in each piece. Also the amount of water used is minimal compared to when dying on fabric the the rinsing process is far too wasteful. Batiking on paper seems to be a more environmental and sustainable approach to the art.
