Olivia Townsend
About The Artist
Olivia is originally from Sackets Harbor, New York; a quaint and historic town on Lake Ontario. Growing up, she had an instinctive fascination with the natural world from exploring her own backyard to the iconic Adirondack Mountains. Her curiosities about animals and plants led her to pursue a major in biological sciences, and she graduated with a B.S. Honors from Union College in 2014. From the time she was catching frogs and watching birds, Olivia was also drawing and painting. It wasn't until college that she began blending her two passions for biology and art, realizing that they truly go hand-in-hand. Olivia has a particular affinity for birds but illustrates all types of wildlife every chance she gets, and she has also started taking up photography. She now resides in San Jose, CA and attends graduate school at San Jose State University conducting research on seabird ecology and conservation. Olivia believes art is one of the most essential and powerful ways we learn about science and plans to continue illustrating and capturing the natural world, hopefully inspiring others to appreciate our environment one piece of artwork at a time. As a lover of travel and the outdoors, she is continually awed by our beautiful planet and eager to share its incredible life artistically.
