About The Artist
Shourabh Mukherji (b. 1977) is a US based modern cubist painter (#themoderncubist) known for his bold and colorful works based on feminine sensuality and eroticism. His works are an inspiration from artists such as Pablo Picasso, Juan Gris and FN Souza. His work is contemporary and revolves around spiritualism, eroticism, figurative and geometric abstraction. When you look at his work, you will find a subtle tension that oscillates between lust and craving and that of revolting separation. It is often the gap between the bodies or the stare that invoke this deep desire, yet that feels momentary and fleeting. In terms of style- the artist applies bold black lines/curves, at the outset that is spontaneous and impulsive. The patterns are linear, hard edged but also curved. There is no strict choice of colors. The emphasis is on female forms - in groups or by themselves and a spiritual symbolism. The paintings often manifest a dance form, a romantic setting or a sensual rather erotic atmosphere. The medium is usually oil or acrylic on canvas with supplements such as chalk paste, graphite or charcoal.
