This 18th century Edo-period Japanese work is from the Rinpa school. It is a six-panel screen with mineral pigments on gold leaf overlaid on paper. The inking technique is called tarashikomi meaning dripping in where a second layer of ink is applied over the first layer before it is dry. The subject is spring and autumn flowers.
