Ashley VanGemeren is a visual artist working and living in Central Maryland. Specializing in mixed media, she creates intuitive, low-relief paintings on canvas as well as collages with found objects and imagery. With a love of narratives and portraiture, she sees each piece as an extension of self, often reflecting personal experiences with romantic relationships and mental illness. VanGemeren resonates with the works of Jason Martin who investigates color and texture as content rather than component, reminding the viewer of the significance of the substance and letting its physicality take center stage. She earned her BFA in Fine Art at the Corcoran School of the Arts and Design/George Washington University in 2015.
