Christa McCann-Silver

Welcome. Christa is a full time Fine Artist, Surface Pattern Designer and Minimalist. There is beauty in simplicity... Christa lives a Minimalist lifestyle and embraces everything Zen and her art reflects these experiences. Creating artworks are an integral part of Christa's daily meditation and a celebration of both her Minimalistic and Zen journey. ★ SHIBUI – Christa's artwork takes influence from her Minimalist/Zen lifestyle and the Japanese ‘Zen’ aesthetics of ‘Shibui’. A Japanese term for something that appears simple but is actually complex in detail that balance simplicity with complexity. The key components of Shibui design are:- ☆ Simplicity ☆ Modesty ☆ Silence ☆ Naturalness ☆ Everydayness ☆ Imperfection Through her artwork Christa strives to exhibit the aesthetics of Shibui. WATERCOLOUR Unique creations through continuous experimental approaches with regards to materials, techniques and subject. Pushing the boundaries with its time honoured 'rules', and asking the viewer to see the medium in a new and contemporary light. Artworks, that re-evaluate traditions and conventions, but at the same time keep the characteristics and the essence of the beautiful fluid gems of Watercolour. A selection of Christa's watercolours are created using authentic mineral pigments, e.g. Amethyst, Tourmaline, Garnet…. Through continuous exploration Christa has developed two unique watercolour application techniques. INK Christa's Inked drawings are worked in a similar approach to her Watercolours. They also push the boundaries of tradition, in the areas of subject, inking style, materials and techniques. ZOOM SERIES Christa states, ‘By creating high-resolution digital images (macro photography) of my watercolour paintings, I am able to capture and highlight the wealth of magical and serendipitous effects created by the intricate interaction of pigments and water on paper. The ‘Zoom Series’ aims to showcase the beautiful patterns and textures created by the fluid gem watercolour (and ink). This design approach is a major element that contributes to my signature style’. ©Christa McCann-Silver ★ MARKMAKING - Creating with line and stippling (dots) are two favourite ink texturing techniques. As layers build so does the intensity of tone. Creating with tiny mark making is typically very time consuming, however, Christa finds it has a relaxing quality. ★ TEXTILES - Weaves and stitch are a major influence and are seen in the form of line and mark-making (dots and dashes being favourites). The limited vocabulary of mark-making colour and economy of shape all create simplicity 'Shibui'. ★ GEMSTONES form an endless source of inspiration. They provide a wealth of colour, texture and pattern, which are keystone elements in Christa’s artwork. Watercolour being a beautiful, fluid, luminous and transparent gem is perfect for capturing the essence of gemstones. Thank you for your visit.
