Daniele Nannini

Born in Turin, I hold a Degree in Humanities from the University of Pisa. I currently live and work in Florence. Starting with commercial illustration, rendering for architects and urban planners, my field of interest has focused in the publishing. Nevertheless a relevant role in my work is still held by illustrating for advertising, game publishers and public utility. In publishing I work in fiction and non fiction area. In the children’s book field I illustrate for other authors, as well as plan and realize books as complete author myself. Published in Italy, France, Greece, Iran, Japan, Spain and Swizerland, I often act as my own editorial planner as well, either of a single book or of an entire series. In 2009 the compasses-zoo series (Animali Compassati, A notte tonda, Circocircotondo) has become a registered trade mark and an interactive web-site: compasses-zoo.net In 1988 I was awarded the Andersen-Baia delle favole Prize as best illustrator of that year in Italy for the book Animali Compassati (Compasses Zoo). In 1992 the children jury of the Rodari Prize awarded me the second place for the book Gira e Scopri le Strisce (Turn the page and discover – Stripes). My work is featured in italian and international exhibitions such “Children’s Book Illustrators” in Nishinomiya and Tokyo 1984 and 1989, “Biennial of Illustration” in Bratislava 1987, “Selected Illustrators Exhibition Prize Catalonia” in Barcellona 1990, “Matite Italiane” at Bologna Children’s Book Fair 2000. Solo exhibition: "Animali Compassati" (Compasses zoo) in Pavia 1988 (an initiative of the local administration), "Manuale di Zoologia Immaginaria"(Imaginary Zoology Handbook) in Florence at the Meyer Children’s Hospital, in the context of the Meyer Art project 2003. "Scimmie, Umani ed altri animali" in Imola (an initiative of the local administration) 2011. "Arte in Fabbrica" (Art in the Factory) in Nurberg at the Staedtler Factory 2011.
