I’m Douglas Lail, an Asheville-born artist whose industrial influenced mixed media abstractions are distinguished by multiple layers of texture, color and organic forms. I draw inspiration from vacant buildings in Asheville’s River Arts District as well as other timeworn structures in and around town. My current abstracts are gritty, less refined reminders of the ever-present tension between man and nature. These works combine non-traditional materials with a multilayer approach. This heuristic process involves numerous cycles of building up and stripping away. I’m less concerned with preserving the surface, but rather discovering what lies beneath. My latest work focuses on the transformative power of air and water. douglas lail joined Society6 on March 29, 2014
